With so many areas to check out in the UK you could be forgiven if you do not think about Cambridgeshire as a choice for a canal holiday. However, this is a great place to come away and enjoy a short break or holiday exploring via the waterways, so you really should take a look at the canal holidays in Cambridgeshire. The wide array of boats are an ideal option for anyone that doesn’t want to navigate too many locks and would like to have easy cruising for their boating holiday.
Discover the Stunning Natural Beauty of Cambridgeshire
There are well over 150 miles of stunning waters to spend some time on, and this is more than enough when the cruising speed of the boats are not more than 3-4 miles an hour. Along the way you will pass by some stunning sights and attractions and of course have a birds eye view of the countryside. Due to Cambridgeshire being relatively flat you will be able to see a great deal along the way and pass by meadows, the fens and nature reserves as you go.
Although technically speaking you will not be on canals in this area as the areas you can cruise in your boat are rivers. The rivers that you can sail on when you are on a boating holiday here are the river Ouse and river Cam. Along the routes there are so many stunning places to explore and stop off at and some of the popular ones include Ely, St Ives, Huntingdon, Brampton, Bedford and many more.
The starting point for many of the Canal Holidays in Cambridgeshire is Ely and the boatyard here that has a great selection is the Bridge Boatyard. You will find a variety of boats from here that can sleep anywhere up to four or six people and the luxury cruisers are a lovely choice for your break.
The boats are fully equipped and come as a self catering option, so all you need to do is bring the food with you. Before you set off the boatyard will provide you with guidance on how to work the craft and then you are good to go.
Plenty of Lovely Areas to Explore on the Boating Holidays
Dependent on how long you are going away for will reflect in how far and how much you can see. One of the important aspects of the boating holidays is the fact you need to be able to get back to the boatyard with the boat before you finish your holiday…..so do not go too far! This starting point is excellent as you can head in one of two directions.
If you choose to head North East then you can head off to areas that include the Little Ouse and Botany Bay, however, if you choose to head South West you can go out towards St Ives, Huntingdon, St Neots and Bedford on the Great Ouse River.
There are loads of great places to explore on the canal holidays in Cambridgeshire and whether you opt for a short break of three or four nights, a long weekend or a week or more away there will be plenty to keep you entertained.
